URUGUAY EMPLOYMENT

Uruguay government presents bill to increase hiring of vulnerable populations

Montevideo, Mar 19 (EFE).- The Government of Uruguay introduced a comprehensive employment bill aimed at encouraging the hiring of three priority groups: young people, single mothers heading households, and individuals over 50.

Camera: Hernán Ogállar Vidal.

Includes statements from:

Yamandú Orsi:

“We made it clear that there are groups in this country that need to be supported due to their vulnerability. We are thinking of a law aimed at young people who cannot find their first job, women raising children on their own, and those over 50. The idea is to address this through employment subsidies ranging from 25% to 80% of the monthly salary, depending on the case.”

Juan Castillo:

“These subsidies range from 25% for younger workers—33% if the contract is for a woman—and can go up to 80% of the salary for those facing the greatest difficulties. This will not solve all problems, but it is another tool to help respond to this demand.”
