IRAN WAR LEBANON

The start of Ashura is marked by ruins and skepticism in southern Lebanon

Nabatieh (Lebanon), June 17 (EFE).- The Lebanese Shia community is celebrating the start of Ashura, one of the main religious observances in Shia Islam, in the southern city of Nabatieh, two days after the signing of the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, while Israel continues its airstrikes on southern Lebanon. In an atmosphere marked by displacement, destruction, and skepticism about the region's future, black flags once again hang from building facades, and husseiniyas, buildings specifically designed for Shia religious ceremonies, have opened their doors to the faithful. Yet in Nabatieh, few speak of a "normal" Ashura.
