NEPAL SAGA DAWA FESTIVAL

Nepal marks end of sacred Saga Dawa festival

KATHMANDU, Jun 15 (EFE/EPA).- Nepalese Buddhists gathered at the Boudhanath Stupa on Monday to celebrate the final day of the Saga Dawa festival, one of the most sacred observances in Tibetan Buddhism.

The festival commemorates the three major events in the life of Lord Buddha — his birth, enlightenment and parinirvana, or passing away — and is widely known as the "Month of Merits".

During the celebrations, devotees offer colourful lungta (prayer flags) and perform religious rituals, believing the prayers and good deeds carried out during this period bring blessings and peace to both the living and the deceased. (Camera: NARENDRA SHRESTHA).
