VENEZUELA PROTESTS

Mothers seek justice for detained youths in Venezuela

Caracas, Jul 16 (EFE).– A group of women from Caracas called a meeting with the attorney general on Wednesday to demand the release of relatives detained after the 2024 presidential election crisis.

They claim that releases have been on hold since March.

The families, mostly from humble backgrounds, expressed concern about the deteriorating health and mental state of the detainees. Many are young workers and students under the age of 30.

The protest was organised by the Committee of Mothers for the Truth, which insists that the detainees are innocent. According to a local NGO, Venezuela currently has 948 political prisoners. (Camera: RAYNER PEÑA R.)
