Marco Rubio travels to Rome to repair ties with Pope Leo XIV, Meloni

Vatican City, May 7 (EFE).- United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio departed Wednesday for Rome with the aim of repairing relations with Pope Leo XIV and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after sharp criticism from President Donald Trump.

Rubio, who is Catholic, will arrive Thursday morning in the Italian capital and travel to the Vatican City for an audience with the pontiff. On Friday, he is scheduled to meet Meloni before returning to Washington.
