Hiroshima, Japan, Aug 6 (EFE).— On Wednesday, as Japan marked the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) warned that the risk of nuclear weapon use is now higher than ever due to ongoing global conflicts and tensions.ICAN's executive director said that the idea of using so-called "tactical" nuclear weapons is especially alarming, noting that the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki would now fall into that category. She urged the world not only to eliminate these weapons but also to reject the concept of nuclear deterrence. The U.S. bombed Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, killing tens of thousands instantly. The total death toll later reached around 210,000, with lasting humanitarian and environmental consequences still felt today. (Camera: EDURNE MORILLO).
