ATOMIC BOMB ANNIVERSARY

Hiroshima remembers atomic bombing 80 years on, amid rising global tensions

Hiroshima, Japan, Aug 6 (EFE).- Hiroshima on Wednesday commemorated the 80th anniversary of the US atomic bombing, under the shadow of global conflicts and amid growing calls from survivors for these weapons to never be used again.

The Peace Bell rang out in the Peace Memorial Park of the western Japanese town during the minute of silence observed at 8.15 am local time, the exact time the bomb "Little Boy" was dropped by the US bomber Enola Gay on the city, killing an estimated 70,000 people instantly, a figure that would double by the end of 1945.
