US court starts trial over Facebook data scandal

Wilmington, USA, Jul 16 (EFE/EPA).– The trial against Meta's chief executive and executives began on Wednesday in Delaware for Cambridge Analytica's misuse of Facebook user data.

Witnesses included a privacy expert and a former Facebook board member.

The case, related to the 2016 US elections, alleges that Meta failed to protect personal data, leading to a $5 billion fine from US regulators. Shareholders are now seeking to recover legal and settlement costs from the company's management.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg is expected to testify, along with tech leaders linked to Meta's board of directors. The trial is being held without a jury. (Camera: SHAWN THEW).
