ISRAEL PALESTINE

Christians, but Palestinians: the West Bank town of Taybeh also suffers the wave of Israeli settler violence

Taybeh (West Bank), Jul 16 (EFE) .- After Israeli settlers tried to set fire to the church of St. George in Taybeh, known as “the last Christian city in the West Bank”, the leaders of the Churches in the Holy Land stood up in their City Hall to denounce the situation. They criticized “the systematic attacks against Christians” in the region with a communiqué that omits a crucial word for their population: Palestinian.

In a room crowded with diplomats and international media this week, a Palestinian journalist asks these patriarchs who are the “moderates” in Israel who will investigate the attacks they attribute to Israeli ‘radicals’ (without using the term “settler”). The answer of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch, Theophilos III, leads him to shake his head in disappointment: “We are not politicians”.
