Arévalo says new attorney general will not serve the president

Guatemala City, May 4 (EFE).- Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo de León said on Monday that the new attorney general and head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), whom he will appoint in the coming days, will not be at his service or that of his government, following a period in which the Prosecutor’s Office was marked by allegations of corruption and prosecutions against critics.

The person who will be in charge of the Public Prosecutor’s Office is not someone who is at the service of the President of the Republic or the government; it is someone who serves the nation, a prosecutor or attorney general in the service of the Republic.
