Thirsty koalas: Extreme heat changes behavior of Australia’s emblem

New South Wales, Australia, May 7 (EFE).- Koalas, one of Australia's most recognizable emblems, have begun coming down from the trees to drink from sprinklers, swimming pools, and even water bottles offered by people, unusual behavior that has been alarming scientists and reflects the impact of extreme heat on the species.

"Farmers kept telling us koalas were thirsty, but science was telling us exactly the opposite," Italian researcher Valentina Mella, from the University of Sydney and a specialist in animal behavior, told EFE. (Camera: EDURNE MORILLO).
