Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, Jul 15 (EFE).- On Tuesday, rescue teams in Indonesia continued to search for 11 missing passengers after a ferry carrying 18 people capsized near the Mentawai Islands in the west of the country. The 12-metre vessel set sail from Sikakap with several local officials on board and was heading for Tuapejat. Seven people have been rescued and 10 of the 11 missing have been identified. Search operations are focusing on the presumed site of the shipwreck, with the help of local fishermen and a rescue boat. This incident comes as 17 people remain missing after a ferry sank near Bali on 2 July. Maritime accidents are common in Indonesia due to poor infrastructure, overcrowding, weak enforcement of safety standards and adverse weather conditions. (Camera: HANDOUT).
