Sydney, Jun 16 (EFE).- Australia Post has equipped its mail carriers with citronella spray as a last-resort defence against aggressive dogs after recording more than 1,200 attacks nationwide over the past six months.

The postal service said workers face an average of nine dog-related incidents every day, with 47 employees encountering aggressive or uncontrolled dogs each week, a 5% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.

The water-based, non-toxic citronella spray is designed to temporarily distract animals and allow workers to move to safety. Australia Post said the measure has proven effective in 95% of cases and urged pet owners to keep their dogs secured during deliveries. (Camera: HANDOUT).
