LEBANON ASHURA

Hezbollah supporters mark the first day of Ashura commemorations in Beirut

BEIRUT (Lebanon), 17/06/2026.- A supporter of Hezbollah hangs a photo of the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a partially damaged building targeted by an Israeli strike, near a sign (R) reading 'God is great, death to America, death to Israel, curse the Jews, victory to Islam' during the first day of Ashura in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, 17 June 2026. Shiite Muslims across the world are observing the holy month of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, which culminates with the celebration of the Ashura festival, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
