PHILIPPINES EARTHQUAKE AFTERMATH

Coastal uplift observed in southern Philippine coastline following 08 June earthquake

GLAN MUNICIPALITY (Philippines), 17/06/2026.- A handout photo made available by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-Phivolcs) shows formerly submerged corals that have become exposed on a co-seismically raised modern reef platform along the coast of Pangyan village, in Glan municipality, Sarangani province, southern Philippines, 12 June 2026 (issued 17 June 2026). The effect was observed following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the southern Philippines on 08 June. Initial field observations indicate approximately two meters of coastal uplift and about 200 meters of shoreline retreat.
